The Washington Capitals beat the Ottawa Senators, who were riding a 3 game win streak, this win puts the caps ahead of the TB lightning in the Eastern Conference standings.

Alexander Ovechkin who was playing with stitches in his thigh scored 4 times for the first time in his career and added an assist. Also, rookie Nicklas Backstrom added a tally and 3 assists. In addition Alexander semin broke out of his point scoring drought with a goal and a couple of AST.

For Ottawa Jason Spezza had 3 ast and a goal.

This turned out to be a nightmarish night for Ray Emery and Olie Kolzig, the two goaltenders. with a combine 14 goals scored by each team.

Bruce Boudreau commented on Ovechkin's play when a reporterof course asked about his injury "i was just waiting for his skate to cut his other leg," which was sarcastically. This performance puts the caps ahead of TB in the standings,so rejoyce caps fans were not in last!!!!!!!!!

Caps lose by 4-3 in OT, tied for dead last with TB, but at what cost???

During the first period when Colby Armstrong(PIT) scored the pens second goal of the game capitals goalie Brent Johnson, who had won his previous 2 starts, slid in an awkward position trying to make the save and hurt his knee and is out for 2-4 weeks. Also, later in the game,with the caps up by 1, caps star forward Alex Ovechkin left the game with what appeared to be a groin injury and would not return. Due to club policy word on Ovechkin and Johnson's injuries can't be any more clear than that, though NHLTV analysts said that Ovechkin had a cut in his leg that needed to be stiched, but could not return because the doctors couldn't stitch it fast enough.

In the end this was a game that should have been won by the caps, but they blew it. Not to blame the new coach Boudreau, but when pit scored the tying goal to make it 3-3 with seven seconds left on the PIT power play boudreau sent out center Brooks Laich to take the faceoff, instead of Nicklas Backstrom or Boyd Gordon, who had both won nearly 90 percent of their faceoffs in the game.

Then in OT Sid the Kid set up a play and the puck came loose and to make up for a lackluster game in which he fumbled the puck twice, leading to caps goals, former cap Sergei Gonchar blasted a slapshot right past Goaltender Olie Kolzig and that ended the game.

This means that the caps are now only5 pts away from a playoff spot in the tightly packed Eastern Conference, but need to find a way to win, whilst other teams lose, but for now they are playing better than the struggling division rival TB lightning.

Earlier yesterday the Washington Capitals hired so called interim coach Bruce Boudreau to be their new head coach.

The Caps responded to this with a win 3-2 against the struggling tampa bay lightning. The only lightning player to score was Vinny Lecalvier, on the other hand the caps scored 3 goals, 1 by dave steckel,1 by Brian Pothier and the GW goal by Matt Bradley, though the goal was slightly questionable,but well deserved. Notable assists: Steckel(WAS):2AST Ovechkin(WAS) AST, St. Louis (TB): AST.

After the game TB coach John Torterella was saying about the 3rd goal, "You get what u deserve," meaning that the lightning were playing so badly that, that goal by the caps may have been questionable, but the way his players were playing it should have and was a goal.

Notable Performances: Dave steckel had 1 goal and 2 assists in the caps win, while vinny lecalvier added his 24th and 25th goal of the season, despite being on a bad road team.

On Friday the caps hosted the Buffalo Sabres and it looked like they were controlling the game until a few boneheaded plays by Olie Kolzig and Mike Green caused them to fall behind 4-3 and then a turnover late by Nylander led to an empty netter putting the game away. Now the caps fall to 5 games below 500.

On the brighter side Nicklas Backstrom scored and viktor kozlov added an assist and alex ovechkin scored.

Danny Haren traded

In another trade of their ace, the Oakland Athletics traded their ace for prospects. Danny Haren was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Brett Anderson, Dana Eveland , Greg Smith, and infielder Chris Carter; and outfielders Aaron Cunningham and Carlos Gonzalez. This follows the traded of two of the "Big Three" in Oakland a few years back (Mark Mulder was traded to the Cardinals in exchange for Haren; Hudson was traded to Altanta).

Mitchell Report

Today Tim Tebow of the Florida Gators earned the name "Heisman Trophy Winner." This was not a surprise considering even Colt Brennan said Tebow would win. Tebow had 29 passing and 22 rush TDs this season. The other finalists that lost out were Chase Daniels (Mizz), Colt Brennan(Hawaii), and Darren McFadden (Arkansas). Colt Brennan because he has shown he is one of the top players that performs very consistently, why else would Hawaii be perfect on the season no other team is. i don't see Tebow and his gators in a BCS bowl. sure Tebow's a better runner but not a better passer and football player. Brennan has combined for 96 TDs passing in his past 2 seasons and is extremely underrated.

today an alberta clipper has and still is at this time bringing snow throughout the mid atlantic with some areas getting 3+ inches including areas in frederick county with frederick receiving 4.2 inches so far. Here in Montgomery County totals have been germantown 4.0+ inches rockville(my backyard) 3.5+inches , gathersburg 2+ inches. Also over by the mtns Hancock received 4 and a half inches. areas in VA have received anywhere from nothing, trace to 3 inches plus. In WV expect more snow especially in the mtns in the mtns expect 6-10 inches and just east expect 3-6 also the cutoff for 3-6 inches in MD is currently just about the NW corner of MOntgomery county and SE of frederick.

The Detroit Tigers and Florida Marlins have reached a prelimiary agreement on a trade involving Dontrelle Willis and Miguel Cabrera. In the trade the Tigers will send outfielder Cameron Maybin, Andrew Miller, catcher Mike Rabelo and minor league pitchers Eulogio De La Cruz, Dallas Trahern and Burke Badenhop to the Marlins. Being at the Pats-Ravens game, I could swear that the refs were being payed by the Pats to rig it in their favor. To quote WR Derrick Mason "that the refs were throwing verbal insults at the players" and samari rolle says the "ref called him a "boy"" which is why Bart Scott got pissed (but there is no excuse for Scott's behavior. Also, the refs are supposed to blow the whistle before the play happens in a false start.

Remembering Sean Taylor

In their game againist the Buffalo Bills, that Redskins did all they could to remember Sean Taylor. On their first defensive snap of the game the porposly but 10 men on the field to pay tribute to him. Also they handed out towels with Taylor's number on it for fans to wave around. The Redskins public address annoucer had something to say too:

Heartbreak DC vs BUF

After the death of sean taylor earlier this week, the redskins looked to earn in win in his memory. Unfortunately for them, Ryan Lindell and the angelo crowell started a come back with lindell being aided by trent edwards getting the bills into FG range. After the redskins had the lead with under a min left in the 4th edwards completed a pass to josh reed to put the bills in FG range lindell attempted the 51 yarder 3 times before joe gibbs got an unsportsmanlike for calling a TO 3X in a row whilst the bills were getting extremely mad; then Lindell made the 36 yarder with 4 sec left. then the skins fell on the ball and attempted a short pass, but BUF was called for a roughing the passer. Colt Brennan threw for 442 yards and 5 TDs to help Hawaii recover from a 21 point deficit in the first quarter. He completed 42 of 50 pass attempts including a school record of 20 in a row as Hawaii finished their season undefeated, giving them a BCS berth. Hawaii could play in the Rose Bowl, but the most likely scenario is a Sugar Bowl berth vs. LSU. Colt Brennan turned in a Heisman worthy performance. The pay out for Hawaii in a BCS game will be almost double their football budget. This will be their first bowl game out of Hawaii since the Holiday Bowl of 1992.

#9 Oklahoma beats #1 Missouri

Sam Bradford and the Oklahoma Sooners beat Missouri for the second time this season and knocked them out on contention for the national championship and even possiblily a BCS bowl bid. Because Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri all play in the Big-12 and only a tops of two teams per confrence can recieve BCS bids, one team will be excluded. #5 Kansas has only one loss and Oklahoma has beaten Missouri, the odd team out will be Missouri. The final score was 38-17. Bradford passed for 2 TDs and Chris Brown rushed for another 2.

Pitt downs #2 West Virgina

Pittsburgh (5-7) beat #2 West Virginia (10-2) 13-9 to knock West Virginia out of the running for the national championship game. Steve Slaton and Noel Devine were held to a combined 22 yards on the ground and Conor Lee kicked 2 field goals as another unranked team beat a top 5 team. Meanwhile, Missouri is losing 35-17 aganist #9 Oklahoma. What other top two teams have been knocked of this year?

• Illinois knocks off #1 Ohio State
• Stanford knocks off #2 USC
• Arkansas knocks off #1 LSU

I think that Colt Brennan should have a chance at the Heisman especially if Hawaii goes undefeated. However don't forget about Darren McFadden.
